A dust collector is an industrial air pollution control device that captures and removes airborne particulate matter (dust, powders, metal fines, fibres, sawdust) from process exhaust air before it enters the atmosphere or is recirculated into the workspace. Dust collection is legally mandated under CPCB/SPCB emission norms in India and is critical for preventing occupational lung diseases (silicosis, asbestosis), combustible dust explosions (NFPA 652/68), and maintaining product quality in clean manufacturing. The primary technologies include fabric filtration (bag filters using pulse-jet or mechanical cleaning), inertial separation (cyclones), and wet collection (scrubbers) — each suited to specific particle sizes, dust concentrations, and temperature/moisture conditions.

Specialized filter media: polyester, fiberglass (260°C), PTFE membrane, and anti-static epitropic fabrics for combustible organic dusts (NFPA 68 compliant). Wet scrubbers safely handle explosive metallic dusts (aluminium, titanium, magnesium) with self-induced water scrubbing — no spray nozzles to clog.
